Women Deserve Better

Just found this fierceness via Uncensored Feminista who in turn re-blogged this from Feministing. Sonya "The Drama" Boom Renee, a finalist in the 2006 Individual World Poetry Slam Finals delivers a performance that makes you want her to stand up and applaud, and book her to represent at any event where the subject of women and choice is being discussed. Well, that was my reaction anyways! "I" statements richard, "I" statements...

Wow, I'm glad I saw her speak; thank you. That was affecting, and I had the same reaction you did. She has exactly the voice I needed to hear speaking for choice.

Yeah, it's great! Women's and girls' welfare is such an important thing, it should be spoken about with passion, not drily; and she manages that so well and so sharply.

But sorry to be rude! The first time I comment on your blog it's with praise about someone else. I really enjoy your posts, definitely a positive addition & a good perspective. :)

how did you find me by the way, i'm curious!

I'm not exactly sure. There was a link to or mention of your post on homophobia in Jamaica on a feminist blog a while back (in comments maybe), but I can't remember which one! I read your posts on being an ally and "Feminist Men" vs. "Pro-Feminist Men" after that and you made me smile and think enough that I bookmarked your blog to keep reading.

still

when we, as men, include ourselves in discussions involving life and choices

we do so with full knowledge that our health/body/hormones/mood will remain the same (relatively) for the duration of the woman's gestation

acknowledgement of this bias and inexperience is essential

this was one of those rare occassions that, even in my objectivity, i merely sat back

and listened
