Photo Essay On The Richmond Peace Rally For Rape Survivors

Oakland photographer Bethanie Hines did a powerful, moving and beautiful capture of the rally Saturday. It really vividly depicts the passion, unity, hope, strength and power of community. I will post some pictures here, but for the full glory, please click here for the complete gallery.

Dear Richard,

My heart aches for the victim of this brutal gang rape. I have been so frustrated by reports of students at Richmond High who blame the victim, or express support for the actions of the alleged perpetrators and bystanders. Thank you for sharing this photo essay and for reminding us that there are real women and *men* out there who are speaking out against this crime, and who are offering the victim a much-needed display of support and hope.
