Here from ABW's blog.
On the other side of the country (why'd you leave us? :D) wishing I could have been at the event! and wondering if you have a synopsis for us.
Thank you for the announcement and the flyer. It really gives the lie to the folks who say women's hip hop isn't happening.
I say just because it's not as visibile as, say, Nelly swiping a credit card across some nameless video girl's butt, doesn't mean it's not happening.
Hey Im
I just wrote a mega-opus of a comment in response to your oh so welcome contribution to the Unlearning Sexism thread.
I am sorry to tell ya... i have no reportback from this event! i wasn't able to make it, i had several obligations in Oakland, and I also dj for 6 hours every saturday night so i gave myself a reality check and had to slow down and not go into San Francisco. There was an event called Nakba 60 in SF that i also had wanted to peep and missed (Nakba = The Palestinian word that refers to the day that Israel was created, it translates into "catastrophe") I hope they both went off sweet.
women's hip hop is definitely happening!! you cracked me up with the actually NOT funny Nelly and credit card reference. Point taken around visibilty tho.
have you heard Voice? She is an MC from LA that i am actually going to be doing some production with... i like to play out two tracks from her album Gumbo, "Fantasy" and "Mediocre". Peep the vibes!
